Laser-cut wooden relief map of West Long Island Sound, featuring the western portion of the Long Island Sound, in New York. Map is framed and ready to hang, a unique and beautiful gift of artwork for sailors and land-lovers alike.
This chart details the beauty of the Atlantic estuary known as Long Island Sound. Its tidal marshes are some of the most pro ductive in the world, producing three to seven tons per acre per year of vegetation, largely in the form of salt marsh grasses. When this grass is flushed out into the sound, it directly contributes to the great finfish and shellfish production the area has become known for. More than 8 million people live within its watershed, with the western portion of The Sound being the most heavily populated.

Wood Charts are based on soundings and measurements from bathymetric and nautical charts. Each depth layer is laser-cut from sheets of Baltic birch and glued together "bread and butter" style to create the contours and shorelines of striking waterways. Select layers are hand-stained a rich blue-green color to discern water from land, and major byways are etched into the land. The whole work is framed in a custom, solid wood frame and protected with a sheet of durable, ultra-transparent acrylic.
