The Griptilian family of knives remains one of Benchmade's best-selling and utilitarian designs. All Griptilian models sport an ergonomic, light-weight handle with a high-texture grip great for every-day carry. Benchmade makes a variety of blade types with the Griptilian body, guaranteeing one for every use.
Durable G10 handle is made from layers of fiberglass soaked in resin, highly compressed and baked. This process makes the material impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change.
CPM-20CV Steel (HRC 59-61)
Excellent edge retention and great corrosion resistance are typically hard to find in one steel, however, they meet here in CPM-20CV. A powder metal steel that takes a fine edge and maintains it, 20CV is a great choice for someone looking for low maintenance and superior cutting performance.
Over the years, Benchmade has developed a special recipe for heat-treating their blade steels. This process maximizes the steel’s molecular structure for a custom toughness and superior performance.
AXIS® Locking Mechanism
Benchmade's patented AXIS® mechanism has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100 percent ambidextrous design, AXIS® gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar that rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners and is positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega-style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS® bar itself.
Sheepsfoot blades feature a straight or gently-sloped blade edge and dull back spine that curves down at the point. The lack of a sharp tip makes sheepsfoot blades popular with sailors for cutting rigging without piercing sails, and with emergency responders for cutting seatbelts without stabbing patients.
