Edited by Richard A. Block, with consultants Walt Martin, Captain C. Locke McCann and Captain Elmer L. Thomas, published by Marine Education Textbooks.
Books 1, 2, and 3 of this course will help most qualified candidates prepare for a US Coast Guard endorsement previously called "licenses" to serve on commercial vessels up to 100 gross register tons (GRT). These three books and Book 4 provide a background for endorsements up to 200 GRT. You will need books 1, 2, 3, 4, and Book 5 to prepare for 500/1,600 gross ton endorsements. You will need additional study material to prepare for an "Oceans" endorsement. (See Capt. Joseph Murphy study guides also available on Captain's web site.)
These study guides go far beyond memorizing questions and answers, supplying extensive instructional and reference material and illustrations, along with questions and answers taken from actual Coast Guard exams, followed up by references to the source of the question and its answer.
