Since the advent of Ocean Grafix print-on-demand corrected paper charts we no longer stock most lithographed "paper" charts (printed by NOAA) for the Atlantic, Gulf, and Great Lakes regions. If you order a "POD" (print-on-demand) chart in these areas we print it up in our store and send it out right away. If you order a "paper" (NOAA lithographed) chart in the Atlantic, Gulf, or Great Lakes regions we will order it from NOAA and ship it in about a week and a half. IF YOU REQUEST "FREE" SHIPPING THE ORDER IS TYPICALLY SENT VIA LOW-PRIORITY PARCEL POST WHICH HAS A TRANSIT TIME FROM SEATTLE TO THE ATLANTIC COAST OF A WEEK AND A HALF. IF YOU ORDER "PAPER" CHARTS OF THE ATLANTIC, GULF, OR GREAT LAKES AREAS AND USE "FREE" SHIPPING, TOTAL TIME FROM ORDER TO DELIVERY WILL LIKELY BE THREE WEEKS. If you order POD charts, they are shipped right away. But "free" shipping to the East Coast, from Seattle will still take a week and a half or more. These charts are not returnable unless defective. They are specially ordered or custom printed for you.
We still stock paper (NOAA lithographed) charts for the Pacific coasts including Alaska, and Hawaii.
Definition of Terms:
PAPER is the current edition NOAA lithographed chart without corrections since the last edition date.
(POD) PRINT ON DEMAND technology enables Captain’s Nautical Supplies to offer full-size, officially authorized NOAA charts in US waters meeting all Coast Guard and SOLAS requirements, printed to your order with all notice to mariners corrections incorporated into the printing up to within a week or two of the print date. These Print-on Demand charts are now PRINTED IN OUR STORE, to your order. Captain’s is the only chart agent north of San Francisco and west of the Mississippi River offering this in-store service. LAMINATED print-on-demand charts are also available and are produced in our store. Allow an extra day for production of laminated charts. A few print-on-demand charts that require oversize paper are not available in laminated. We can also laminate conventional NOAA lithographed charts. These are not available through the web site. Call the store to order.
Print-on-Demand charts are essentially identical to current edition government charts, except that notice to mariners corrections are incorporated, color tints are brighter, and additional coast pilot information may be included in the margins outside the chart. They are fast becoming the standard for paper charts in the marine industry. Paper size may be larger, but the chart itself is the same size and scale as the official chart. Print-on-Demand charts are printed on heavy stock with waterproof and fade resistant inks, can be marked with pencil, and pencil markings can be erased as with conventional charts. The term "water resist" used in Ocean Grafix nomenclature means the inks will not run if the chart gets wet. The paper is no more water resistant than that of regular lithographed charts.
